Susan Collins & Ken Paxton turn women with ectopic pregnancies into ‘walking coffins’

Republicans force women to become walking coffins
  • Susan Collins was the deciding vote for Kavanagh, who lied under oath, and banned abortion. - Ken Paxton petitions to stop Dallas woman from getting an abortion. After a Travis County district judge cleared the way for Kate Cox, 31, to terminate her pregnancy, Ken Paxton petitioned the state's highest court to halt the ruling. - Texas Tribune
  • Ectopic-pregnancy deaths have nearly doubled in the United States. The increase is steeper in states with strict abortion bans. One Texas woman survived after her fallopian tube ruptured. The question now is whether laws written to prohibit abortion are making doctors wait for diagnostic certainty while some patients are running out of time. - Barking Media

What is a walking coffin? How are MAGA Republicans forcing women to become walking coffins? How appointed the Texas Supreme Court justices that ruled to force Kate Cox to carry a dying fetus to term? How do Republican apply pressure on politically appointed justices to get the rulings they want? Why did Kate Cox have to leave Texas to get treatment? Follow along with this interactive map. Endangering women's lives for political points

Republicans make WALKING COFFINS out of women

Women are expected to carry doomed pregnancies to term in Texas

"Kate Cox, after being given a fatal fetal diagnosis, asked for an emergency order to get an abortion: it was her plea to the state to prevent her baby’s suffering and to stop her own. In a just world, it would be unthinkable for a woman to have to beg the courts for such a thing. But Cox doesn’t live in a just world, she lives in Texas. And in Texas, women are expected to carry doomed pregnancies to term.

Even after a judge granted Cox the emergency order, Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton went straight to the Texas Supreme Court. That’s how intent he is on ensuring women suffer through every single day of their nonviable pregnancies. So when the Court agreed to temporarily block Cox from getting an abortion—expecting her to once again plead for just a few scraps of humanity—she made the decision to leave." - Jessica Valenti

Walking coffin

'You feel like a walking coffin': Conroe mom says Texas' strict abortion laws endangered her health. A Conroe woman who suffered a miscarriage says the state's restrictive abortion laws forced her into a dangerous health situation. "You feel like a walking coffin. You're just walking around knowing that you're carrying a loss," she explained. "It felt like I was jumping through so many hoops just to get care for something that had already happened. I already had lost the baby." - ABC 13

Visual storytelling shows the Republican cruelty to women by banning abortions and forcing women to become walking coffins and carry dying fetus to term

Visual storytelling

I chose these two images by Joep Bertrams and Ann Telnaes to illustrate Republican cruel abortion policies. I apologize if you're offended by them. But think about it, are these images even remotely close the cruelty that Republicans are inflicting upon women by forcing them to become walking coffins and carry a dead fetus to term?

Ann Telnaes creates editorial cartoons in various mediums — animation, visual essays, live sketches and traditional print — for The Washington Post. She won the Pulitzer Prize in 2001 for her print cartoons and the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year for 2016. Telnaes is a past president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) and is a member of the National Cartoonists Society (NCS).

Joep Bertrams is a Dutch political cartoonist whose work appears in the Amsterdam-based daily newspaper Het Parool and the TV program NOVA .
