Young Activists, New Tech: The Future of Mobilization

When billionaires have stacked the corrupt Roberts Supreme Court, spend millions to get their lackeys elected and have bought media platforms to blanket the airwaves, how can young activists organize to advocate for themselves. Technology is the equalizer.

Sophie Martin is a high school and a young activist. She explains how she's using the free MakeItFast app to mobilize others to stand up for their rights.

•  Have you ever wished that your peers would stop turning to social media for their news, instead understanding the full context behind a story? With Make it Fast, you can make an impact by helping people to read, understand, and take action on the news.
• I have always been passionate about abortion access, but when searching for news platforms for updates on the topic, I found myself sorting through hundreds of irrelevant articles.
• I knew that without a clear way to understand the story, people wouldn't learn about the topic and wouldn't take action. So I decided to make an impact using Make it Fast.
• Make it Fast is an easy, free program you can use to build your own website or app covering a story or cause you're passionate about.
• First, you can add a title and basic information to the top of the page, as well as a cover image to get your viewers interested. Then, clicking over to the Content tab, you can insert various websites to share the story.
• Make sure to include titles and overviews for each, giving your viewers a clear map of the topic's many sides. Watch your app be created in real time through the miniature interface on the side of the platform.
• Then, most importantly, you can use the phone or email tool to share the contact information of an important government official involved in the issue.
• That way, interested readers can easily make an impact by calling or emailing the politician to protest.
• Finally, make a custom URL so that anyone can easily find your platform. When you've finished your platform, share it easily to your peers or the internet through publishing it.
• Now, you've built a site that will keep people educated and empower them to make a difference.
