Cartoons For Democracy: Volunteers saving the 2026 Polls with Sharpies & Satire

Humor Hits Harder than Headlines
- Personalized, handwritten letters can boost turnout by up to 3.4 percentage points—often the entire margin in close elections
- The 2026 oversaturation of AI-generated political ads, physical mail has seen a 25% increase in "read-through" rates among voters under 45.
- The "Sharpie Warrior" Culture is the high-energy "postcard party" subculture currently trending on Threads and TikTok.
Cartoons for Democracy is a woman-founded, volunteer-run non-profit whose idea germinated during the “great reckoning” period after the 2024 election.
- Political cartoons are reach audiences through satire with a few words and well-crafted artwork.
- Digital algorithms and the censorship by billionaire owned media make it harder to get this great media in front of voters’ eyes.
- Cartoons are “at a glance” messaging that impacts people with a wide variety of educational backgrounds.

How it works
- Cartoons For Democracy provides postcards where the cartoon art of the card is one of the most effective parts of our message.
- Their postcards are never slick, and do not resemble the majority of “junk mail” or other political mail that recipients receive. Messages are SHORT so people can read and absorb them at a glance.
- The messages are a combination of pre-written and handwritten. Clearly handwritten messages are wonderful but poorly handwritten messages are a waste of precious resources.
- Studies have shown that having an element of handwriting is just as, if not more, effective than entirely handwritten messages for communication, which is why our addresses are always hand-written, and we ask users to add a closing sentence and their name to the card.
- They encourage decoration (highlighters, ink stamps, flat stickers) on the message side of the card to make them stand out - but request no decoration on the art/address side of the card (per USPS this increases a card’s likelihood of being rejected).
- Please visit their Shopify site to see available postcard options.

Win the open Michigan Senate seat
Boosting the congressional races will also help us win the open Michigan Senate seat AND the Governor's race.
Designed by Midwest-based cartoonist Kevin Necessary, this postcard is specifically designed for Cartoons for Democracy's Go Blue Michigan campaign. With readily-recognizable caricatures of GOP Representatives John James (MI-10) and Tom Barrett (MI-07) plus billionaire GOP bankroller Betsy DeVos, both the cartoon and the partially pre-printed message highlight how Michigan's federal representatives are loyal to their donor base, not their constituents.
