"After Thoroughly F**king Over America, Mitch McConnell Decides to Treat Himself to a Break"

Mitch McConnell announced that he'll step down as the GOP’s Senate leader after next November’s elections. At 82, the guy is still alive and kicking, and come November, he’ll still have more than two years left on his current term in office. In other words, we’re not rid of him just yet.

But it feels appropriate at this time to talk about legacy and what people will remember about the man when he’s gone. If you remember one thing about Mitch McConnell, it should be that the Kentucky lawmaker, who famously has no principles. McConnell could have rid us of the bubonic plague that is Donald Trump—and simply chose not to." - Vanity Fair

Illustrated Edition of Mitch McConnell's legacy of "Thoroughly F**king Over America".

Mitch McConnell legacy - illustrated edition

"McConnell might be most remembered for is preventing former President Obama from filling a Supreme Court vacancy in 2016. In the ensuing four years, McConnell joined forces with former President Trump to transform not just the Supreme Court but the entire federal judiciary. McConnell confirmed three conservative Supreme Court justices and more than 200 lower-court judges, shifting the idealogical balance of the courts to the right.

McConnell has long viewed transforming the federal judiciary by confirming young conservative judges as his legacy, as the courts carry significant weight in almost every area of policy... McConnell Supreme Court decisions overturning of Roe v. Wade, striking down affirmative action and favoring religious freedom over gay rights. With a 6-3 court, including three conservative justices in their 50s, there could be decades more conservative rulings ahead." - Axios

McConnell shreds constitution to make Trump king

McConnell's MAGA-packed court tilts scales for Trump

"MAGA Justices on the Supreme Court granted review of Trump’s presidential immunity defense. Trump's presidential immunity defense is absurd and unworthy of extended consideration by the Court. It set oral argument for April 22, 2024. It is doubtful that an opinion will be issued before June 2024. In short, there is little chance that Trump will sit for trial in the federal election interference or defense secrets cases before the November election.

The courts aren’t coming to save us—and that’s okay. We were (and remain) in charge of our destiny and Trump's criminal accountability. Our remedy lies in defeating Trump at the ballot box. If we do that, Trump will be convicted and imprisoned. If we fail to do so, Trump will use the Department of Justice to delay and obstruct his criminal prosecutions.

The Court has lost its way

It has breached its trust with the American people. It won’t recover from this wound, regardless of how it rules on Trump's claim of immunity. The Supreme Court appears incapable of rising to a moment of constitutional crisis. Its glacial pace betrays contempt for the American people—or actual bias in favor of Trump. The current Court is broken beyond repair. It must be enlarged so that a new majority of justices willing to uphold the Constitution can reform an institution that has been captured by the Federalist Society and MAGA extremists." - Robert Hubbell (paraphrased)

TakeAway: "feelings of anger and disappointment are understandable and reasonable, the grant of review by the Supreme Court changed nothing. We control our destiny. We must defeat Trump in November. We cannot expect the courts to save us . . . and that’s okay." - Robert Hubbell
