"Supreme Court Strikes Down New York Law Limiting Guns in Public. The decision, based on a broad interpretation of the Second Amendment, will make it harder for states and localities to restrict guns outside the home... The 6-to-3 decision again illustrated the power of the six conservative justices, all of whom voted to strike down the New York law, in setting the national agenda on social issues. The court’s three liberal members dissented.
The decision is expected to spur a wave of lawsuits seeking to loosen existing state and federal restrictions and will force five states — California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts and New Jersey, home to a quarter of all Americans to rewrite their laws." - NY Times

U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney blocked the law. Gun rights groups have been aggressively fighting the laws, often winning initial rulings in their favor before heading to appeal. Gun rights groups have gotten a recent boost from the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen. It set a new standard for interpreting gun laws which says gun laws must be assessed by whether they are “consistent with the nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” - Washington Post
Will there be any consequence for Judge Carney when there are more deaths in public spaces from concealed weapon that his decision allowed? No. Carney has a lifetime appointment, just like Clarence Thomas.
