Mapping women’s desperate journeys across state lines for abortion care

Republican abortion bans are forcing thousands of women to flee across state lines for abortion care.

These are not stats, nor political talking points. These are real women (and girls) forced to flee to other states when Republican led state ban abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest. Or forcing women to carry a dying fetus to term. We mapped some of their stories.

How much do Republicans really care about a baby's life? Check this map to see how your state ranks in maternal care? Pre-natal care? Who are the Senators that stacked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe? Who are are the Governors who banned abortions? Who are the attorney generals prosecuting mothers and giving bounties to abortion bounty hunters?

Which groups are fighting for women's freedom to choose when and with whom to have a baby? How can you hold these MAGA extremists accountable? Start with this map.

Change starts with empathy

How do you help people realize the pain and suffering caused by MAGA Republican extremism. Data and numbers are sterile and hard to relate to. But translating those numbers into real life stories exposes the cruelty behind Republican abortion bans. That's where storytelling comes in. Storytelling converts facts into an emotional issue. Something you can relate to, after learning about the plight of a 10 year old rape victim. Empathy matters.

Showing how badly these Republican states provide pre-natal care reveals the Republican hypocrisy behind claiming they care for life. If Republicans cared, they would provide more care and resources for pregnant women and childcare assistance after birth. Mapping the Republican politicians responsible for the abortion bans helps understand who to hold accountable. (The names, faces and destinations of some of these women is hidden to protect their privacy.)

How does your state rank in providing services for pregnant women

Hold the Republican extremists responsible for abortion bans accountable.

Texas officials try to force dangerous, non-viable pregnancy

For the first time since Roe v. Wade, an adult woman has been forced to seek abortion care outside of her home state after seeking permission from a court of law to obtain an abortion. Kate Cox, a Dallas resident, asked a Travis County judge to grant her an emergency abortion. On December 5, an Austin court gave her permission to receive an abortion in an exemption to the very restrictive abortion law in Texas. Only a few days later on December 8, the Texas Supreme Court overturned this decision. These events expose the bankruptcy of the political system and the lie that the far right is “pro-life.” Cox ultimately left the state to get the care she needed. - Liberation News

TakeAway: Elections have consequences. Next time, vote for Democrats to protect women's freedom to choose.
