Virginia Republicans resort to dirty tricks and lies to overcome the backlash to an abortion ban.

Virginia Republicans resort to dirty tricks and lies to overcome the backlash to their abortion ban plans.

Voter suppression. Purging voters. Closing polling locations. Slander and outright lies...

Keeping track of all the Republican dirty tricks is hard. Use this infographic inspired by Center For Common Ground (CFCG) in Virginia to understand how these dirty tricks work, and what you can do to fight back so you can vote for reproductive rights, reduce gun violence and improve public schools.

Consider three dirty tricks: Why do Republican candidates publicly say they are against an abortion ban but in private declare “I would support a 100 percent ban.” (Rolling Stone). Why not tell voters the real GOP plans?

Why is it so hard to find early voting locations and hours on the Virginia Dept. of Elections website but readily found with the Center For Common Ground app? Could it have something to do with making it harder for people working two jobs to get to the polls? Increase the waiting lines on election day?

Purge voters from the rolls. Hundreds of "eligible voters from four localities in the Richmond area were mistakenly kicked off state voter rolls". Coincidence that many of them were low income, Black voters?

Virginia Republican Dirty Tricks Cheatsheet

Virginia Republicans resort to dirty tricks and voter suppression to push their abortion ban

Total abortion ban

In two separate recordings previously reported by The Washington Post, John Stirrup, a candidate for Virginia’s House of Delegates who is publicly supporting a “reasonable” 15-week ban, told one potential voter, “I would support a 100 percent ban.” He told another, “I’d like to see, you know, [a] total ban.” GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin — who once promised supporters privately he would go “on offense” on abortion if he had a Republican-controlled legislature — told attendees of an online forum earlier this year: “Any bill that comes to my desk I will sign, happily and gleefully, in order to protect life.” - Rolling Stone

Make it hard for seniors, disabled rural voters to cast their vote

Republicans cut the number of early polling locations. This makes it harder for seniors, low income, rural and the disabled to vote. Especially if they cannot drive, don't have cell coverage or a cell phone to request a ride or find polling locations. These are precisely the people who would be hurt by Republican cuts to healthcare, Social Security and Medicare. Why make it harder for these rural, elderly voters to vote?

Center For Common Ground has organized a free, volunteer driven service that arranges for rides to the polls. It can be used with just a landline phone - no cell coverage, computer or internet access needed. Call 843-890-2992 to request a ride or volunteer to give a ride.

TakeAway: Don't fall for Republican dirty tricks, Virginia. Vote to protect your freedoms.
