Georgia six week abortion ban imposed by Georgia Supreme Court

Don't Be Next, Virginia! Learn from Georgia's Six Week Abortion Ban.

Georgia Supreme Court upholds six-week abortion ban. Justice John J. Ellington dissented with the Supreme Court's opinion. He agreed with the lower-court ruling that the Georgia law should not be allowed to stay in effect because last year’s U.S. Supreme Court decision on abortion was not the law of the land when Georgia lawmakers passed the LIFE Act four years ago. An act “cannot spring to life because of any subsequent change in the law,” he wrote. - Moultrie Observer

The Georgia Supreme Court ruled 6-1 to enforce the six week abortion ban. Who are the eight justices? How many of these justices belong to the Federalist Society? Who appointed them to the Supreme Court? Who are the political operatives helping Georgia Republican Governors on judicial appointees? Who funds the Federalist Society? What connections does ethically challenged, Clarence Thomas have with the Georgia Supreme Court justices?

Georgia six week abortion ban is an exercise in dark money stacking the courts

Abortion largely inaccessible in the South

Georgia’s six-week abortion ban will remain in place after the state Supreme Court ruled that the law is valid — a move that leaves abortion largely inaccessible in the South.

The ruling reverses a lower court decision from 2022 that struck down the law on the grounds that it was unconstitutional when the state legislature passed it in 2019. At the time, Roe v. Wade, which barred states from prohibiting abortion before viability, was still the law of the land. Doctors, abortion providers and other advocacy groups argued that the law was not only unenforceable because it was “void ab initio” — void from the start — but that it violates due process, equal protection and other rights inherent in Georgia’s Constitution. - Washington Post

Republicans call for national abortion ban

“Women have been denied the medical care they desperately need to preserve their health, including being turned away from emergency rooms, forced to travel hundreds of miles for care and faced complications that make it more difficult to have children in the future,” Jean-Pierre said. “It doesn't end there. Republican elected officials are doubling down and calling for a national abortion ban that would criminalize reproductive health care in every state. President Biden and Vice President Harris won't stop fighting until the protections of Roe v. Wade are restored in federal law.” - ABC News
