Republican extremism denies rape victims abortion rights in state

Republican hypocrisy: Concern for what children can read but forcing a raped girl to travel out of state for care.

10-year-old Ohio girl who was raped crossed state lines to get an abortion in Indiana...Dave Yost, fanned doubts about the case this week when he said in an interview on Fox News that he had found no evidence of such a victim." - NY Times

"Yost has made his personal opinion on the issue clear. He opposes abortion, is suing to reinstate the state's ban on most abortions, called for Roe v. Wade to be overturned and is co-headlining Ohio Right to Life's fundraiser." - Cincinnati Inquirer

"She was forced to have to travel out of the state to Indiana to seek to terminate the pregnancy and maybe save her life," Biden said at the White House. "Ten years old — 10 years old! — raped, six weeks pregnant, already traumatized, was forced to travel to another state."

Conservative media rushes to dispute rape case

"Conservative news media questioned whether the girl existed. Jesse Watters, a host on Fox News, suggested that the story could be a “hoax” meant to buttress the abortion-rights position. The Wall Street Journal published an editorial on Tuesday with the headline: “An Abortion Story Too Good to Confirm.”

The Wall Street Journal editorial page called it a "fanciful tale" in a piece representing the official editorial position of the paper, headlined "An Abortion Story Too Good To Confirm." Fox News's Emily Compagno, co-host of Outnumberedtold viewers abortion activists were ignoring real rapes to propel their cause: "What I find so deeply offensive, is that they had to made up a fake one!"

"There have been a number of false or inaccurate claims made about abortion law and the Dobbs decision, including false claims that women can be prevented from traveling for medical care or that ectopic pregnancy treatments are now barred as abortion in some states," Jonathan Turley, a Fox News contributor, wrote in a column for the New York Post. "These false accounts can be a dangerous form of disinformation if women believe that they cannot receive treatment for legal procedures." - NPR

What is Ohio Issue 1? Issue 1, or the Right to Make Reproductive Decisions Including Abortion Initiative, is an amendment on the November ballot that would guarantee a constitutional right to abortion and other reproductive health care in Ohio.

What would a “yes” or “no” vote on Issue 1 mean? A “yes” on Issue 1 would establish an affirmative right to abortion, contraception, miscarriage care and fertility treatment in the Ohio constitution.

How does Issue 1 impact abortion? Ohio’s six-week abortion ban, which has no exceptions for rape or incest, is currently blocked in court, allowing abortion procedures before 22 weeks of pregnancy. Ohio has six full-service clinics and three centers that provide only medication abortion. The 19th News
