Plan multi-stop campaign trips better with Smart Maps

How can technology help improve turnout at campaign events, rallies, protests?

Planning and publicizing campaign events is challenging. Especially when the campaign has events with different speakers making stops at different locations. The logistics are challenging.
- Schedules change. New events are added and other events have to rescheduled or moved to a different location at short notice.
- How do you make it easy for people to find out about the latest details of campaign events on either a laptop or phone?
- How can grassroots groups plan campaign trips with a small team, few technical skills and slim budget?

Smart Maps meet these challenges. Smart maps refresh automatically as new information is added.

In this hypothetical example we assume Mickey and Goofy are on a multi-campaign trip across ten Florida cities. The system is designed so organizers can quickly enter and update campaign event details. Details of the campaign stops can be shared on a web site, or see on a phone. Any changes about event details are immediately shared with the public. We created this Smart Map in a few hours with ArcGIS Online. Credit to Disney for the images of Mickey and Goofy. This mockup is simulated and does not involve Disney in any way.

How to design a Smart Map of campaign events

Event details are entered in a Google Sheet along with the latitude and location of each stop.
Information from the Google Sheet is linked to ArcGIS which generates and refreshes the map automatically.
Each event is represented as an icon on the map.
Images of Mickey and Goofy are used to represent who is speaking at each event.
Event details show up in a pop up box when the icon is clicked.
Map bookmarks make it easy to navigate directly to a campaign event.
The map an be used on a phone or laptop without having to instal any software.
The user's location is shown on the map based using the GPS of the phone.
This makes it easy for users to find out about campaign events near them.

Keep it simple

How to plan and publicize campaign trips with multiple stops and presenters

Maximize usability

Make maps easy to use and share with others. Embed the map in partners' websites to increase exposure for your events.

The Smart Map can be shared with this link https://arcg.is/mLjuv or embedded in a website with this code: < iframe width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" allowfullscreen src="https://arcg.is/mLjuv"></iframe>

Make it easy for supporters to find campaign stops near them and get details of the event.

TakeAway: Use Smart Maps to plan and publicize campaign events.
