Follow the George Santos money trail

Kevin McCarthy overlooks Santos' lies to seat him in Congress.

“A person who misrepresented themselves as speaking on behalf of a candidate in order to raise money may have committed a criminal violation, and any other person who knowingly and willfully participated in the plan could also face criminal charges,” Brendan Fischer of the watchdog group Documented said. Donors have said that Santos lied about his background to them when he raised funds. He has admitted to lying about his education, his work history, his family, and other parts of his past. - LGBTQ Nation

Santos' lies are hard to grasp because there are so many of them and involved a large cast of characters. Use a network map to follow the money behind George Santos. The trail leads from a company (Harbor Capital) being investigated by the SEC for a ponzi scheme, to a staffer impersonating Kevin McCarthy's Chief of Staff while fund raising. The trail crosses Republican committees who received a lot of money from Santos, QAnon supporters and a fancy Italian Queens restaraunt.

Brazen liar

George Santos, has made what appeared to be brazenly false statements about his background and business career. He had boasted of being an accomplished investor and financier who had worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. Yet each firm noted it had no record of his employment there.

He had said he graduated from Baruch College. The school said he had not. He said he had worked at a Florida company called Harbor City Capital that was accused by the Securities and Exchange Commission in 2021 of running a $17 million Ponzi scheme. He supposedly made at least $3.5 million from a mysterious company, called Devolder Organization LLC, that he started, that had no public profile, and that was dissolved soon after it was created. This marked a dramatic shift from his first run for Congress in 2020, when he reported earning $55,000 per year. - Mother Jones

George Santos lies about everything

Demands for Santos to resign

"George Santos should resign from Congress, but should he refuse, Kevin McCarthy must not seat Santos on any committee where he is given access to classified information, according to a letter sent today by CREW.

Santos lied about graduating from a university, falsely claimed he worked for two Wall Street firms, and claimed that his grandparents had survived the Holocaust while falsely implying that he is Jewish, among other false or unsupported statements. He claimed he ran a mysterious family firm worth millions, raising questions about whether he lied on any of his Federal Election Commission filings or on his congressional financial disclosure form." - CREW

Campaign finance violations

George Santos Lied His Way into Federal Campaign Finance Violations. Voters have a right to the information they need to make informed decisions. Reporting has revealed Santos’s many mistruths, embellishments and outright lies about his work and educational experience, heritage and personal life, which clouded the public’s ability to evaluate him as their representative in Congress.

As troubling as those falsehoods may be, Santos’s deeply problematic campaign finance disclosures are worse. They raise numerous red flags of illegal conduct, and they appear to have been intentionally designed to hamper voters’ right to know how his campaign raised and spent its money — information that is essential for voters to evaluate candidates for office. - Campaign Legal Center
