"The House approved a D.C. statehood measure by a vote of 232 to 180 last year. The legislation, titled H.R. 51, would create the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth, named after Frederick Douglass. It would give D.C. two U.S. senators and a voting representative in the House, like every other state. Who decides what makes a state?
Republican Senator Tom Cotton said in the Senate that Wyoming may be smaller, but it is a "well-rounded working-class state. Yes, Wyoming is smaller than Washington by population, but it has three times as many workers in mining, logging and construction, and ten times as many workers in manufacturing. In other words, Wyoming is a well-rounded working-class state." - Twitter
Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz, a Democrat, retorted in a tweet that D.C. residents shouldn't be deprived of representation "just because Tom Cotton doesn't think they have the right jobs." - CBS News
The map shows there are more workers in DC, with higher levels of education, paying more in taxes. DC residents deserve taxation with representation.
